WHO CAN BE A WITNESS TO REGISTER A MARRIAGE?
Any individual who has attended the wedding of the said couple, is eligible to be a witness. They should have a PAN Card and a Proof of Residence as their identity proof.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE?
If an individual is applying for a passport or opening a bank account after his or her marriage, the Marriage Certificate is required. A marriage certificate is helpful in obtaining visas for both the spouses. All foreign embassies in India as well as in countries outside India, do not recognize traditional marriages. The Marriage Certificate is compulsory for the couple to travel abroad when using a spouse visa. The Marriage Certificate also enables a spouse to claim life insurance return or bank deposits in the case of the demise of the Insurer or depositor without any nominee
